Hard Drive thrashing

#1 Post by kzapp » Mon Jan 15, 2007 9:32 pm

i have a lenovo 3000 C100 bought in Feb2006

it took me a while to realize it, but my hard drive runs excessively at times.

finally i was able to track it down to occuring after stand by.

i read an old post in the thinkpad forum about a similar problem.

sure enough mine is the same, but i don't know how to stop it. i downloaded a program called filemon - from it i found the problem. the program AcMurocHlp.exe keeps running only after standby. when i turn off and restart i notice that the thinkvantage box comes on -(seems to resolve the problem)-- but it does not do this after stand by.

i have updated to thinkvantage 4.23 and the intel wireless driver for the 2915ABG to 9.0.3.9 and it did NOT help.

my computer is utterly silent now because i restarted. if i had not it would probably still be whirring. and then eventually i have programs freeze up. ( i also got rid of Norton).

one other thing - why does that yellow ! sign come on in the task bar? the drive runs a lot then too.

Welcome to the Thinkpad Forums :)

Err, Yellow Exclamation can't be good, did you click on it to find out what it is? Or is it just a bunch of latent Windows updates?

You might want to check what other processes are accessing the HDD.

I met someone who looks a lot like you.
She does the things you do.
But she is an IBM.

i have automatic updates on and installed. Any opinions on doing this?

Just now i received the update for IE7.0 - any opinions on this version?

i would still like to know how to fix the thrashing problem so i can use standby or hibernate - i need to always restart for client security solution to run.

Well i fixed the problem. i contacted IBM support @ TVT and i ended up having to uninstall Access Connections. That was the folder where the offending .exe program was.
