one question to the board, and yes I have searched for it but I need more detailed information:
I have bought an X40 with 1,2Ghz. But every time I start working with it after 10 Minutes the fan goes off and never stops again. I was in contact with another X40 user who said to me that his device is cooling the whole time, too. But in his case his device's fan is so silent he can't hear it. My next problem with my fan is, that it does a little speedup every 4-5 seconds. Is this common?
My question to the board is, how loud is your's? Can you really hear it in a quiet room? Do you have this "speedups" too? Which X40 Variant do you have? Is the X31 less noisy?
Sorry for that bunch of questions, but I have this device and love it. But nobody can tell me if this is normal or a defect. And there are no other X40 users around to compare.
Thank you in advance for your answers,

I got a X40 2371-HU1 about three weeks ago. Initially things seemed fine. But then, three usual noise developments occurred:
1. incessant low-speed fan. the fan runs all the time, no matter how idle the machine is or how cold the surrounding temperature. The fan did stop for a little bit when I ran some PC-Doctor tests.
2. high-pitched morse-code like noise coming from the microphone when the computer is on battery power and running certain applications. I've noticed this noise is always triggered by loading a web page with flash with Internet Explorerer. The noise is something like "teek, teek, teeeeek, teek, teek, teeek." Disconcerting. The intensity of this noise can be diminished by lowering the performance setting to power saver. It disappears when the AC is plugged in AND when the sound recorder is recording. But as soon as recording stops, the teeek teeek comes returns.
3. AC adapter makes a high-frequency eeek sound when plugged into the wall. That's okay, it's not noticeable. But when the computer is powered by AC and the I'm scrolling through a web page in Internet Explorer, hitting the up, down, pg up, or pg down buttons causes the AC adapter to make a faint but distinct zap sound. It's like a bzz.
Called tech support. They had no idea, but surmised that there might be a problem with the circuits.
