noisy hard drive or graphic card???

#1 Post by zamxz » Tue Jan 16, 2007 12:40 pm

Hey everyone,

I just got a new T60: core 2 duo 2.0Ghz, 1gig ram, 120gig HDD spinning at 5400rpm and the ATI x1400. I was able to turn off the fan to keep the noise at bay ( thanks to the tpfancontrol;- ). However, when the fan is off, I noticed that the middle right section (where the HDD and graphic card are located?) sounded like a mini vacuum cleaner! Is this because I have a really noisy HDD or is there another fan connected to the x1400 that is used to cool it? This noise is constant when the laptop is on.

Has everyone notice this?

It is HDD. I experienced the same whirring sound with my T43 hard drive.

In quiet environment, it is not that ignorable.

• Considering a T530 or X230T now

5400rpm drives should not be louder than newer 7K100 Hitachi HDD for example. My stock T42p 5K60 was dead silent turned at max performance speed.

I just found out that I have the FUJITSU Mobile MHV2120BH. Does anyone out there have this hard drive and notice how loud it is?
(I thought Fujitsu were known for quiet hard drives).

Thanks for help

The HD is quiet in any other setting BUT a T60 HD bay. Its almost like the construction amplifies the noise. Not much you can do.
