600e - No TV out Options

#1 Post by PCWatchman » Tue Jan 16, 2007 10:25 pm

600e 2645-5BU 400mhz 288MB RAM NeoMagic MagicGraph256AV

Under W2K, there was a NeoMagic display panel that I could control TV output with. Now that I've upgraded to XP, there's no specific TV option panel. Display/Settings/Advanced/Monitor shows LCD panel, ext monitor and Generic TV, but no specific TV options.

Does anybody know how to get the driver or program that gives the TV options? I installed the W2K NeoMagic driver that did it under W2K, but it doesn't change anything in XP Pro.

Thanks in advance!

I think you have to do exactly what you've done: install the Windows 2000 driver under XP.

In addition to just installing the old driver, you also might need to:
1. Plug in the TV-out cable and turn on the TV before turning on your Thinkpad
2. Change your screen resolution to 800x600 and 16 bit colour
3. Close and Re-open the Display Properties panel after changing the display settings

On my 600X, the Neomagic tab either doesn't appear or doesn't provide a TV-out option unless I do those things.

Thanks, Phil. I tried all that, then went to DriverGuide to download another driver. It works, NeoMagic tab now present. There must have been something wrong with driver I had.

Again, thanks!

I don't have the TV out card. but Windows recognizes that I have that ability and Thinkpad Configuration has a button to enable TV out. MY 600E is 2646-4BU running XP Pro. I assume if I has a TV out card, all I would need to do is press the TV button in Thinkpad Configuration. See if that works. Other than that, I don't know anything else about the TV out.
I have finally rejoined the dark side.

Yea, Stargate199, that's how mine is working now. Problem was resolved. There was something wrong with W2K driver I was using, so I got a new one off DriverGuide, and it works firn now on XP Pro. Thanks

No, in this case I think your assumption is incorrect. You need to install a different/additional driver in order to get the TV out card working under XP. The presence of the TV out button in the Thinkpad Configuration panel does not mean that that button is functional without a proper driver.

That's great that you got it working. I am certain that the W2K driver from IBM/Lenovo also accomplishes this, so for others reading this thread, there is no need to sign up to DriverGuide or any other 3rd party site (I don't think you can download DriverGuide drivers without signing up), but if you got a driver from there or anywhere else that works then that's great. :-)

Pkiff, Thanks for your post, because I wrote that problem was resolved as soon as I saw TV option in NeoMagic tab, before I actually plugged it in TV.

Even though I start PC w/TV plugged in and PC set to TV, 800x600 16bit, there is no signal sent to TV. So please advise what addl. driver I need, per your answer to Stargate199:

[You need to install a different/additional driver in order to get the TV out card working under XP. The presence of the TV out button in the Thinkpad Configuration panel does not mean that that button is functional without a proper driver. ]

Thanks!

Hi this is a bit of a step backward for this thread but... Could someone please tell me what format, is the TV out signal on a 600e? Is it just video out and can I use a regular RCA video cable to connect to the TV video jack? Or do I need the IBM cable?

I gather from this post that the W2K driver is best with XP, so I'll have to change mine.

Yes LTJunkie, As long as you have the IBM dongle that plugs into the tiny connector on the 600e, you use an ordinary RCA male to male to connect dongle's female RCA to video in of TV.

My problem is that I don't have the dongle. Could I just plug the RCA cord straight into the jack on the TP? I know there is a little bit of a size difference, but I believe that I could addapt a RCA cord to fit. But if the signal is changed by the dongle then there is no point.
