markup issue

#1 Post by basti2399 » Wed Jan 17, 2007 4:40 am

I have an issue with a Thinkpad T60 which is pretty hard to describe. Sometimes it seems to lock the shift key, meaning if I use the mouse in any application or the explorer to mark up text or icons, the behaviour is like having pressed the shift-key. It´s no more possible to markup single icons or words/letters. Only a restart cures this.

What I tried so far is to disable the accessibility options in Windows (actually I deleted the registry keys at last), which did not help much. Also I know there is a "extend markup" feature in word (press F8 and you know what I mean), but that´s not it.

I could not find a cause for this, sometimes it happens 5 times a day, sometimes once a week. There are no specific actions which lead to this, it just happens.

I use a custom built XP SP2, which is also in use on some X60 models, which do not show this issue.

Has any of you experienced this? Any information or hint to get this resolved would be really appreciated.

Thanks
Bastian

Sounds like it might be a keyboard profile issue. Check that the proper keyboard language and keyboard layout are selected in Control Panel. A number of layouts implement the "shift lock" behavior which is different from "caps lock" (hit one of the shift, it locks into shift, hit it again, it switches back to unshifted). But of course since you are in Germany you probably already know that.

Also, the T60's keyboard layout is different from previous ThinkPads layouts, since it has the new Windows keys. You say you are working from a "custom" XP version that was created for another machine. Try to download and install the keyboard driver that is specific to the T60.
