It looks like it draws about 6 times the power at idle. The Hitachi 7200 draws about 1 watt at idle, and this 15K drive draws almost 6 watts at idle. But oh, how I want one...

There are different needs re: space and time, but me - I would not turf my 7200-rpm for love nor money. I am now formally in line in 2007 for a new ThinkPad with a 15,000-rpm drive :)

Those are SAS enterprise drives. Normally the fastest 2.5" versions were 10,000rpm. It uses the same connector, but a WAYY different controller. You would also be looking at probably a grand or so for that drive, if not more. SAS 2.5" drives dont come cheap. They were designed for smaller form factor servers, like 1-2u designs to allow greater number of drives in a smaller amount of space.

Even if Thinkpads (do any others?) had an SAS controller to run these drives, I'll bet these put out a LOT of heat at 15K rpm.
