T22 battery and reading DVD+R questions

#1 Post by Noslen » Fri Jan 19, 2007 2:48 am

1) i've been using my t22 for the past 3 years and really killed the battery to a point where it only holds a charge for 25-20 mins haha. My questions is, should i spend $100 on a new battery (btw, how many hrs of charge can a new t22 battery take) I really like the t22 but is spending $100 on a battery kinda pointless, should save up some more money to and get a newer tseries or even an xseries?

2) on my t22 the dvd rom doesn't read burned DVDs, why? is there a fix for this?

cheers,

nel

Since you haven't yet updated your profile with your location (please do), I'm assuming you mean $100CAD and not USD. There's a couple of places you can pick up batteries for the T2x series that are reasonably inexpensive. I have used batteryrefill.com for 600 series batteries. They also sell ones for the T2x. Rated at 4400mAh, these are about as good a battery as you can get. Then, there's always eBay, as long as you can find a seller willing to ship to you. Treated correctly, you should be able to get a couple of hundred "charge cycles" and a life of several years. Doesn't make much sense to me to go out and spend $300-$400USD for a newer laptop, which also has a battery that costs $70-$100 to replace, if that's the only reason for the upgrade.

As far as the DVD question goes, it's possible that you have an early model which does not like burned DVDs. You can either try a different manufacturer of blank discs or see if there is a firmware upgrade for your particular model. Use Google or Yahoo to search on the model number and "firmware".

my T23 will not read DVD+R, althougth it tends to read DVD-R.

the drive i have is a GCC-4160N.

you could try using the DVD firmware update that ibm supply for thinkpad drives, althougth this did not help in my case.

(bootable ISO cd image)

alternativley a replacement drive would solve the problem, but i personally am prepared to live with it for the time being (as i have multiple laptops).
