8611 Error / Trackpoint

#1 Post by Another Dave » Sat Sep 11, 2004 9:58 pm

I purchased a 600e and have intemitent problems while booting. I get the 8611 error. When it does boot the trackpoint doesn’t work. When I run the system board test it fails with Dev 086 Err 22 FRU 0010. Iam assuming that a possible system board and keyboard replacement is in store? Would like to get some feed back on this. :?:

An 8611 error is a defective trackpoint. The Trackpoint is an integral part of the keyboard assembly. Keyboards are easy to replace and are readily available on Ebay (for example).

It is possible that you may just have a loose connection or the error can be due to a failing BIOS battery. You can try replacing the BIOS battery (it's a coin cell attached to leads and plugs in near the memory) or just reseating the connections from the keyboard.

Hope this helps.
