I have a 1 year old T43 and recently replaced the battery. When I did the replacement I switched from the 6 cell to the 9 cell. Ever since I replaced the battery, my machine has been hanging up (complete freeze, no mouse CTRL+ALT+DEL functionality or keyboard function and the same image on the screen). I tried reinstalling the power management software and updating the bios but it did not correct the problem. When I put the old battery in it works fine.
It sounds like a defective battery, and I plan to send it back to the MFG, but I am curious to know what could possibly be causing this. Also, if anyone has a fix, I'd appreciate it since it will be a pain to send the battery back for a new one.
Thanks
Hangup with new battery

I can't imagine your problem being caused by the battery, but since you seem to have verified it, I guess it could happen.
If it's a new IBM battery (not an aftermarket), then all you have to do is call IBM and tell them you think the battery is bad. They will ship one to you asap, and send you a return shipment lablel for the old one. Be warned, that you may receive a refurbished battery as the replacement.
I had to replace a battery under warranty and IBM sent the replacement in 2 days. It turned out to be a good battery, but since it was either "used" or "refurbed", it didn't hold a charge for very long. I called IBM and told them the battery was dying too soon, and this time, they sent me a brand new battery... again in 2 days. IBM seems to be quick about this kind of thing.

Thinkpad Battery
I wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't witnessed it with my own eyes. The old battery has been back in for 3 days with no issues.
Unfortunatley it is an aftermarket battery. The IBM was just too expensive, although I may end up paying the price if I have problems with the return.
Thanks for your reply.
