There are a lot of varied opions on what is best for the pc/laptop. I've seen posts about that here, and there a many people who just like to use standby/hibernate for their Thinkpads - turning the power off only for extended periods of inactivity.

But, to answer your question: I bet that if we all left our Thinkpads on, that many (most?) of them would outlast the owner. ;)

I tend to turn off my laptop at the end of the day because it goes in my bag and I turn it on at the next client. Client networks vary, and the fresh startup provides Access Connections an interval to find the right connection. Further, I set a batch file to disconnect folders on shutdown, so client folders disappear when I leave, and home folders appear when I startup at home.

My desktop PC is different. I never turn it off. I have had two desktops (sequentially) since 1998 that I have never bothered to turn off except for routine maintenance and vacations. They are no worse for the wear.
