How to sync documents between Thinkpad and Desktop

#1 Post by Stargate199 » Mon Jan 22, 2007 12:11 pm

After starting school this semester, there is a lot of work I need to do on the computer. I mostly use my Thinkpad at school, but use my desktop at home because I have a nice setup. The problem, I need to use the same files between computers and I need an automated way to sync my files from My Document between computers. I can do this with a USB flash drive, but I would prefer an automated way through my home network to do this. Both computers run XP Pro. Any ideas? Thanks to all in advance!

open a windows explorer and tools / syncronise

or automatic

use offline files option and whenever you restart it does the job.

or download windows power tools and install sync folders...

Some options, including freeware, are described in a Wikipedia article: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File_synchronization

I use SyncbackSE through ftp. There is also a freeware version of it that will do syncing.

Great, I downloaded the Synctoy PowerToy and that was what i was looking for. I had played with the synchronize feature in XP but could not get it to work, probably because that only works in a domain environment.
