Sold: ThinkPad T43, 10 Days Old, warranty, etc.,$650 del.
I cleared this sale with Bill Morrow.
I purchased a T43 this month from a major reseller. It was a closeout model - last in stock - for a very good price (model 2668-42U, detailed specs below). I was hoping to just swap my T40 drive to the T43 and then sell my T40.
However, it turns out that you can't just swap drives. See this link for more info;
http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?t=36392
Although I have 30 days to return it, I'd like to offer this for sale to TP forum members because of the good price. $650 delivered in the U.S. would cover my costs.
This is a powerful T43 with dedicated ATI graphics (Vista is no problem). It is absolutely mint/brand new. It only has 2-3 battery cycles and the first used date of the battery is 2007-01. I am only selling it because I don't want to reinstall and reconfigure all of my applications. My T40 works perfectly.
It was clearly in stock for a while since the warranty info says the expiration date is 06-15-2009, about 2.5 years from now. I will email the invoice to IBM and request that the warranty be reset to 3 years starting on 1-10-2007, the invoice date. However, this is no guarantee that IBM will do this so purchase with the belief that you have 2.5 years of depot warranty. I will not proivde a copy of the invoice to you and will not keep following up with IBM.
Finally, I am also offering the following upgrades, exactly the upgrades I was going to peform if I kept the unit.
-another 512MB of RAM (bring total to 1GB, 2 X 512MB sticks) - add $35
-IBM/Lenovo Atheros 802.11 a/b/g WiFi min-pci adapter II - add $35
-upgrade DVD drive to IBM ultrabay slim combo CDRW/DVD drive, unused IBM replacement unit - add $35
Bottom line
-New T43 (2668-42U) with 2.5 year warranty in original box with all original documentation, ac adapter, trackpoint tips, etc. - $650 delivered in U.S.
-add 512MB memory - add $35
-add IBM Atheros a/b/g II adapter - add $35
-upgrade DVD to CDRW/DVD combo drive - add $35
Or take it all for $750 delivered in U.S.
Detailed Specs
ThinkPad T43 2668-42U
Pentium M 750 (1.86GHz)
512MB RAM
40GB 5400rpm HD
14.1in 1024x768 LCD - no bad pixels
64MB ATI Radeon X300
DVD
Wireless upgradeable
Modem
1Gb Ethernet
UltraNav
Secure chip
6c Li-Ion batt
WinXP Pro
AC Adapter
P.S. I can post a picture, buy you'd just be looking at a brand new T43.

I agree that this T43 should go fast.

My T43 was one of my favorite models for quite some time and the reason that I kept it.
I only upgraded to a T60p because of the work that I do, and I actually need all the speed and resources available. This is far from the norm. Unless you are a design engineer, or a graphics artist, this is more than enough computer for you.
Someone here, is going to get the deal of the year!
Cheers....

I agree with you guys about this deal...that's why I bought it. I just can't handle the time committtment for the reinstall of all my apps. plus the data migration plus the tweaking.
The next time I do that will be for Vista, and I'm not quite ready to try that!
One person is very interested and I should hear back by tomorrow, but I will take back up inquiries in case this one falls through.

I have a new 2686M5U I acquired less than 2 weeks ago. It differs from this one in that it has a slightly faster processor (2ghz), an SXGA+ screen, DVD-RW, and came with a larger hard drive. It also cost a bit more ($899).
I went through the same aggravations of trying to get it to use an image from my old T42, then threw in the towel on that endeavor after a day and a half.
As much as a PITA it was to reinstall my apps, I really really like this system. Buffing it up with a 7K100 100gb PATA drive and 2gb of RAM has made it as fast (or seemingly so) as its two dual core siblings (see sig).
The T43 ain't outdated, it is a very fast and very usable modern notebook. Unless you are spending all your time doing spreadsheet crunching and high end graphics processing, it is as fast or you can make it as fast, as anything out there.

Wow, a very cool price, I would surely buy it if I were living in the US (which I intend to do in the following years). I bought a T42p last year and I think it's a biggest improvement over my 3-year old T30, the Pentium M 1.8GHz is a very fast processor which encodes MP3 files very quickly.
Maybe you could post some pictures of the black beauty you're selling?

When I say outdated, I mean last year's technology. I consider my 600E obsolete because it cannot run most new software and operating systems. The only reason I still use this machine is because I like it alot. It is one of the best computers I have ever owned. I would like to get a 600x or at least the base of one so I could upgrade to something a little more powerful.
I have finally rejoined the dark side.
