Wireless driver / Access Connections Problem

#1 Post by sparta.rising » Tue Jan 23, 2007 12:59 am

Hi, I just did a fresh install of XP (after upgrading to Vista then downgrading back to XP). Software Installer didn't give me a Wireless driver so I had to get it off of the Lenovo page. I thought I chose the right driver, but when i try and power the wireless radio on with access connections, it doesn't work. Under adapter details it says "Firmware Version: N/A". Now I remember this is a problem I had once before on a fresh install, but I dont remember how to fix it. I installed the Intel Pro/Wireless 2200BG drivers. Any help?

Access Connections has become very buggy in recent releases. Some say that if you uninstall it, then uninstall your wireless drivers, then reinstall wireless drivers, and then finally, reinstall AC, that you can get it to work.

I can tell you that I have taken delivery of 3 brand new Thinkpads in the last 2 weeks (see sig). I have not updated wireless drivers or AC, but have been forced to uninstall AC on two of the three new laptops because it will not work reliably. The Windows native wireless driver, on the other hand, works fine after uninstalling AC.

IF you don't really need AC, just uninstall it and forget it. That is probably the best advice (or help) that anyone here can give you.

First, uninstall Access Connections and your wireless driver software. Reboot and cancel any Found Hardware Wizard. Download and install the Wireless Driver software first, reboot, then install Access Connections. Always install Access Connections last, and uninstall Access Connections anytime while you are upgrading the wireless driver.

You can get the latest version of your wireless driver and Access Connections from the following page. Click on link in the Wireless driver requirements table to get the wireless driver software. Be sure to read and follow the installation instructions carefully.

Probably what happened, you downloaded and executed the file, but all this does is extract the files to your hard drive. When you ran Software Installer, it installed the extracted files. Instead of running Software Installer, you could have alternatively ran Setup.exe from C:\DRIVERS\WIN\WLANINT\.

I just remembered something, so I went back to the readme file to check. Sure enough, you are supposed to run ACSETUP.EXE, not Setup.exe. Maybe that makes the difference. Note that both files are in the C:\DRIVERS\WIN\WLANINT\ directory.

8. Make sure to be logged on with administrative privileges.
9. Open an Explorer and locate the directory where the files were
extracted.
10. Double-click ACSETUP file.
11. Follow the instructions on the screen.
12. Restart the computer.
