T60p Windows Vista Business - no sound

#1 Post by marcr » Tue Jan 23, 2007 8:50 am

got a t60p 2623-ddu with vista business and I get no sound out of the internal speakers...

only sound device I see is the "spdif digital output device" - anyone else having this problem?

I have installed a fresh copy of windows vista and installed all of the lastest drivers (yesterday) - everything else appears to be working correctly...

- confused. thanks in advance!

Do you see the sound card listed correctly in the device manager?

Only device under sound is a "high definition audio device"

Funny thing is - there isnt anything else on the computer under the device manager that is complaining it doesnt have a driver...

no question marks here...

any thoughts?

Might take a look at this or Google SPDIF Vista

Seems to be a lot of discussion.

interesting discussions...

i dont think thats the problem though - when I click on sound devices and then "recording" - it says "no audio devices are installed"

it looks like the only thing that is installed is the hi def audio device.

looks like it is missing the standard sound device...

thoughts?

| Start (menu) | Control Panel | Classic View (if it isn't selected) | Sound | Playback (tab) you should see, Speakers and Digital Output Device (SPDIF) Speakers need to have a green check mark, if it doesn't you'll need to download the latest drivers from Lenovo. Go to the main Lenovo website, click on Support & downloads in the white bar just under the main title. Enter 2623 ddu and click go. On the new page in the second box from the top first item is Downloads and drivers, click on it, fifth item is Audio Features, click on it, down load and install. http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... MIGR-67218 or do a search for MIGR-67218 Hope that helps.

Try removing the high-def audio device from the device manager, reboot and let it reinstall. You can also try installing the drivers from Lenovos site.

My T60 worked out of the box for audio, didn't bother with the Lenovo driver. I'm assuming the audio devices are the same between T60 and T60p.

Thanks DAH - that worked.

Interesting how it doesnt show any audio device - but as soon as I installed it - the sound worked straight away without a restart or setting change.

Thanks!

Glad you found it helpful. I'm not sure why for some it doesn't seem to install correctly.

I have Z61m, but I think it's no difference in Sound h/w between those TP types. So, I also have no sound neither before nor after the driver install. Deleting of the hardware and new installation is the same result - no sound at all.

Any ideas?

Have you installed the driver from this page? http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... MIGR-67218 when log in as an Admin, and are you doing it too a RTM copy of vista? Installing it is a three step process.

1) Download...
2) Run Which unpacks the program to your computer.
3) go to that folder on your computer and run Setup there, this actually installs the program.
4) Reboot

How about the sound quality? I know the hardware is still the same but is there any quality upgrade in the sound?

Do WMP11 sound different in XP than in Vista?

FYI most Thinkpad use Audio Max chip, which is, in my opinion just have average quality compare to Realtek or Yamaha.
