Outlook - long delays veiwing / opening emails

#1 Post by ccrawford@markbis.com » Thu Jan 25, 2007 7:24 pm

I'm experiencing a long delay viewing / opening emails in MS Outlook 2003. Is there any Thinkvantage software on my ThinkPad X40 that could be causing the problem? I currently have Symantec Client Firewall v 8.6.0.134 and Symantec Antivirus that came on my PC as a free trial offer. I'm guessing that my problem relates to some kind of security software, could it be the combination of Thinkvantage software and antivirus/firewall? Any help would be greatly appreciated. :?:

How long are the delays? How are you connecting to the server? Exchange, POP3 or IMAP4?

Im using POP3. The delays vary, sometimes there is no delay and sometimes the delay is from 4 to 20 seconds or longer.
Any suggestions? Thanks!

If you're using POP3, the email messages are actually on your local hard disk already so there is no networking involved any more at that point.

Are you seeing delays with anything else? How larger are your mailbox files? Have you checked your hard disk for fragmentation?

This reminds me of a similar problem I saw recently. Perhaps the solution is likewise related.
