Z61t integrated camera driver problem

#1 Post by FRiC » Thu Jan 25, 2007 11:44 pm

I have two Z61t's, one of which came without any OS installed. So I installed a new copy of Windows XP on it. Everything works fine except the integrated camera, the problem is that if I use Lenovo's own webcam driver, Windows XP hangs during shutdown. The webcam itself works fine, only Windows locks up at the shutdown process. There are two drivers on Lenovo's website for download, both show the same symptoms.

I solved the hang problem by using Sonix's own latest drivers (it has a lot more functions compared to Lenovo's drivers), but then the little webcam activity light doesn't turn on when the webcam is in use.

Any thoughts?

I used these drivers from the sonix site:

http://www.sonix.com.tw/sonix/download.do?d=1566,2

That's the driver for the Sonix SN9C201. It installed some software for video capture (movies). If this is the same as what the poster used, then, perhaps the additional functions he refers to are brightness, saturation, etc available in the video capture program.

But I found the picture quality to be inferior to that provided by the Lenovo supplied driver. So I switched back to Lenovo.

I'm hoping to get my cam working in Linux so going to try and contact some driver developers and give them the windows drivers to see if they can hack them somehow and build a driver for linux.

Yes, those are the drivers I used. I also want to use Lenovo's own drivers, but Windows XP locks up at the shutdown screen if I use them. Did you have to do something special?

I don't know the cause of your problem, but I would make sure that you have the Intel Chipset drivers installed, and the Windows Install Supplements. Another couple of possibilities would be ThinkPad Configuration Utility, Lenovo System Interface Driver, and Power Management drivers.
