Hard Drive Tip

#1 Post by gibblr » Fri Jan 26, 2007 6:19 pm

I just thought I would let the A31 owners know of a possible replacement for their laptops

I just bought a 60gb Seagate Momentus 5400 rpm 8mb cache hard drive today.

Very nice little drive.

On a cold boot with no fans running I could not hear the drive running.
Coming off a IBM DeskStar 4200 rpm drive this one is amazing when you compare speeds and noise levels

The salesman told me not to touch the top or bottom of the drive due to sensitive exposed components, but so long as you are careful it is not a problem.

Try not to shock the drive, and watch when it's on and spinning, you could ruin several sectors if a shock occurs.
Newer HDD don't tend to generate too much heat.

I bought that same drive and also later bought the 100Gig 7200 from Seagate and have been extremely pleased.
