Audio crackles + skips when moving/reading lots of files

Whenever I try to move around a bunch of files (a CF card full of pictures, for instance), or even sometimes read them, any audio the system is playing begins skipping and crackling. I do not remember ever having this problem in XP. Anyone know the source of this and/or how to fix it?

I have this on my z60m. It was much worse when I first installed Vista and improved when a graphics driver update arrived in the Windows Update (don't ask me why this would help the sound!!)

I guess some drivers are still a little immature and will improve over time. I'm just hoping it won't take long.
