It's an easy upgrade.
1) Grab one of these:
http://search.ebay.com/56k-ethernet-thi ... 10QQsotrZ2

2) Download the Hardware Maintenance Manual for your X Series and follow the instructions for replacing the Mini PCI card:

3) Install the drivers:

I picked one up from ebay for $20 shipped and installed it in 10 minutes. XP SP2 recognized the hardware and installed the modem and NIC software automatically!

OK, what if there is no RJ45 Connector?

#5 Post by Hug0 » Mon Sep 20, 2004 3:18 pm

I just bought a firewire PC-card for my Thinkpad X20. When I bought the new card I did not realize that there is but one PC-card slot on the X20. I am already using an Ethernet PC-card for connectivity. Therefore I was delighted to see that it is possible to install a mini-PCI card, because then I would be able to surf the net and use my new Firewire Harddisk at the same time.

On my X20 there is an RJ11 connector for the modem, but where the RJ45 connector is supposed to be, there is only piece of plastic (removable).

So my question is - how do I install and enable mini-PCI ethernet when there is no RJ45 connector?

Cheers,
Hugo

Removing the removable plastic cover should leave you with an RJ45 connector...

Wow, I removed the plastic cover with a cork screw :D and - behold - there was really an RJ45 connector underneath it. Thanks!

WLAN Mini PCI on X20

#8 Post by arx » Sun Nov 21, 2004 9:23 am

Hi there,

I would like to use an internal wlan mini-pci card on a X20 (266232G). Can I do that or do I have to use the PCMCIA slot? The question is if the X20 has a UltraConnect antenna, so that I could put in an INTEL PRO WIRELESS LAN 2200 or 2100?!?! Or are there any older models that can be bought from ebay? Thanks for your help! arx

Arx,

None of the X20 models came with WiFi antennae installed.

Best bet is to use a PC card instead.

Thanks for the fast reply. It's a pity, but probably it is the best I can do...
