Thanks, I was wondering what one could expect from the Intel 945. I have a quite similar machine, and it is good to know that it is "future-proof".dfumento wrote:For an X60 as listed in signature:

Graphics rating is impressive given that it is the built-in intel 945.
Your Vista Performance Scores
Now I'm confused! I re-installed Vista Business and got all the latest drivers and everything in Vista is set to High Performance. Bios settings have NOT changed.

I'm not sure what the problem is. I've probably run it at least 20 times while trying different driver combinations ( drivers from Windows Update, Lenovo System Updater, and individual hardware manufacturer's websites like Intel & ATI).
I'm really stumped at this point! Anything obvious I could be overlooking?

When you say "everything" does that mean programs like AC, RR, and other thinkpad software? I know I've gotten different result depending on what software I have installed. A fragmented hd also affects your score.JHaislet wrote:I re-installed Vista Business and got all the latest drivers and everything in Vista is set to High Performance.

I only installed the essential Thinkpad software. I blew out the Rescue & Recovery partition last year and have never used those programs. I'm not sure what "AC" is, but I did a fresh install (formatted the HDD).
Thinkpad Software Installed:
Active Protection
Keyboard Customizer
Power Manager
System Update
Thinkvantage Fingerprint Software
Have tried both ATI Catalyst 7.4 & 7.5 drivers (both driver versions yielded my faster "before" scores, yet are MUCH slower now on my current install).

I have a T60 and it seem like mine is pretty slow or should i switch back to window xp pro? I am running vista ultimate. I havnt install any thinkpad software yet, that might be the problem. Or do i even have to since i did a clean install of vista?

I think I found an abnormality with the Vista Performance Benchmark.
As I wrote above, I did a fresh install of Vista Business a couple days ago and since, my "Graphics" and "Memory" scores have been significantly lower (Graphics were 3.5, now 2.0; Memory was 5.9, now 4.4).
On a whim, I clicked the "View & Print" details link under the results and found some strange results with regards to the Graphics Driver being used. I currently have the latest ATI X300 Mobility driver installed (v.8.380), yet the detailed report states that it's I have the default Vista driver (v.7.14.10.830).
I've tried uninstalling the windows driver and updating it to the 5/17/2007 (v8.380) ATI Mobility driver, yet the details page on the benchmark still shows that it's using the old Vista driver from 2006 for the benchmark!

I popped out a 1GB SODIMM, thus presumably putting the T43 into single-channel DDR mode and 1GB of total memory for Vista.
NOTHING changed on the benchmark (see screenshot)!
This seems really strange as I thought you couldn't get over 4.0 without more than 1GB of ram.

Scores from another T41p;
T41p Base Score -- 3.4
Processor - 3.5
Memory (RAM) - 4.1
Graphics - 3.6
Gaming Graphics - 3.4
Primary Hard Disk - 4.4
These are consistent with other T41p scores. Testing was done on a stock T41p (Pentium M Banias 1.7GHz) with only RAM upgrades. Notes:
1) It's nice to see that all the scores are respectable, especially the graphics scores - they are still better than some T43 & T60's.
2) The memory score stayed the same with either 512MB X 2, 1GB X1, or 2GB X 2 memory installed.
3) The disk used was the original 7K60 7200 RPM 60GB drive. I also have another T41p with XP installed on a 7K100 7200 RPM 80GB drive and I"m sure the score would go up a little. That newer drive is somewhat faster (previously, I had the same XP image on both and the performance difference was noticeable).
Bottom line, Vista with Aero Glass runs beautifully, so does XP!

After switching graphics cards (in the Dock) in System Properties I now have a message that briefly flashes up saying "System rating is not available", in a second or two replaced by "Windows Experience Index: Unrated". When I click on that, I get a "Performance Information and Tools" dialog that is pretty empty - just a message about when my last rating was done. Nothing to click. Anyone know how I can reset this to measure the System Rating again? Aero is working, rebooting does not help.

found this article that pretty much explains why people with identical systems are going to get different scores, from the article the scores are also based on what programs are running on your system at the time.

The base score and subscores express the level of performance you can expect not only from Windows Vista itself, but from the programs that you run on it.

T60p, Core2Duo T7600, 2GB RAM, Seagate 160GB/7200.2 with v5200 card in the Advanced Dock. Vista Ultimate 64-bit.

The Advanced Dock is (apparently) bandwith limited to 34 MB/sec. You can see the effect of this bottleneck when using Google Earth on the external video card - it's jumpy, compared with the internal v5200, which is totally smooth. Even though the external card is rated higher, it feels slower. I don't think the WEI test is correctly taking into account video bandwidth bottlenecks when benchmarking desktop performance. 4.1 is probably the accurate number for my system.
