wireless led won't come on

#1 Post by epikos » Mon Jan 29, 2007 12:23 pm

Hello.

I just upgraded the Centrino/Intel wireless B card in my Thinkpad T40 to a generic Intel Pro/Wireless 2915ABG card.

After some messing around I got the software and drivers installed and the card powers on and off just fine. Fn-F5 works fine, too; it brings up the menu and if I turn the card on windows finds access points.

The problem is the wireless LED under the monitor doesn't turn on and off. The card powers on and off, because I can watch windows find and drop wifi signals. Just that little LED doesn't do anything.

To get everything working this far, I ran ACSETUP from the IBM driver package and did a default install.
I don't like access connections and would prefer to just use windows to manage the networks.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

Almost the same situation here . . . I just picked up a second T42 from eBay (for my wife; 2373-4TU) that has the Intel 2200bg wireless card. I had to muscle my way through the driver update procedure (uninstall everything related to wireless, install 2200bg driver, install Access Connections, etc.), but the wireless LED still doesn't come on. Fn + F5 works, AC (4.21) works, the connection works (using it to type this), but no LED :?: I have a hard time believing it could be burned out . . .

Hi,

Has anyone found a solution for this ? My Wireless LED doesn't work in my T400 w/ Intel 2200BG ..... everything else work fine, like wireless and Fn+F5 function.

Thanks !!

There is your problem. If you use a generic card the light may not work. If you get the IBM/Lenovo card it will work.
If you want full functionality you need to but factory approved parts or be prepared to hack it if you are not lucky.

Hacking it requires very fine soldering skills, the Mini-PCI slot pinout diagram and the willingness to "adjust" the driver .ini files. I tried it a while ago with a generic Atheros card with little success.

That is what I thought too. I put a generic card in a R51 a while ago and just had to live with the fact that the light didn't work. Oh well, it's just a light. As long as the wireless worked I was happy and so was the customer. At least that is one guy who won't be complaining about the wireless light flashing all the time.
