FYI Vista and heat

#1 Post by Cassirer » Mon Jan 29, 2007 10:41 pm

O.k. i had to try the vista again. I ended by taking it off -- lots of reasons. However, one thing I noticed that I had not heard of before was that with the glass vista the processor was running like mad -- hence why I took it off. But then I also realized that this caused the processor to heat up ... or at least this is what I thought as the machine felt hotter. So I tested and sure enough hotter it was -- i did not do extensive testing but after about two hours there seemed to be about 20% difference. Now I know that this might be due to a lot of factors. I was wondering if anyone else had observed this.

It would be cool to get actual comparisons, side by side.

Use a program and monitor temperatures on 2 running units, and record the differences not only in temperature but also in CPU and battery useage.

One reason why I don't want Vista.

The temp on my T60p feels similar between Vista and XP Pro but I also had it running high performance in XP Pro, all the time when plugged in which is pretty much the only way I use my laptop. It's very rare that I use it on battery power only and even then it's not for very long.

No difference in heat production or battery life between xp and vista for me. Overall, they feel about the same.
