Vista on a T42

#1 Post by Lauranmc » Mon Jan 29, 2007 11:25 pm

I partitioned by 100mg hd and gave 25gb to Vista(evaluation copy rc1).......installed vista from boot of the dvd using a usb dvd drive(not within xp). It is running great. It seems as though I have everything working properly, didn't have to download any drivers from lenovo. Found my wireless network and connected as soon as I gave the code. I am going to play with it for awhile to see if I want to buy it when my evaluation runs out. So far everything works great.

- My wireless isn't working
- FN+Fx hotkeys aren't working (specifically the one to turn on the wireless antennas, F&)
- My "experience score" is a 2.. because of the ATI Radeon 9600pro.. gosh, I don't even wanna know what it's like with any of the other T42 video cards, the 9600/FireGL_T2 were the best offered!
- the thinkvantage software updater doesn't detect any vista drivers from lenovo, but plenty are on their site (except for my wifi card :'( )

yeah there's a lot of stuff that needs to be accomplished. Oh well, I'll just restart and boot back into arch linux which does eeeverything I need.

After disabling most of the stupid animations and crap that just wastes my time, it doesn't really seem much slower than xp.. but then again, I barely have any software installed yet (just firefox, clamwin, visio 2007, onenote 2007, opera, and some Lenovo drivers).

you're lucky, installed it on my t41, no supported drivers for a 7500, so have to use a standard vga driver.

i get a 1.0 rating :)

That's one of the things I liked about it......it found my wireless network right away. I press FN + F5 and the wireless panel comes up. I wonder what is different with yours.

oww.

Yeah I guess it could be worse.

Oh and my wireless works now that I plugged it in and ran windows update. Boo @ Lenovo not having them on their site where I can get to them.

On your T42? Did you upgrade? I don't have Access Connections installed or anything, I did a clean install. They didn't say Access Connections was compatible so I didn't download it. I don't have any hotkeys right now :(

Do you have the intel wireless or the ABG IBM Atheros card? I have the Atheros, Microsoft doesn't have the drivers for Atheros stuff :(

I gotta get the widcomm bluetooth stack too. I was using the Bluetooth II drivers with my Bluetooth III card.. the Microsoft stack is awful, they barely implemented anything.

Access Connections for vista was released sometime this afternoon. I'm glad to have it back.. I was getting sick of manually launching my vpn client already haha.
