how many size screens are there for a T23???

i just purchased a new LCD bezel for my T23.

mine is cracked, so i saw an auction for one on eBay.
it said it was for the T23:

i got it today. it has a P/N of "04P3151". the IBM T23 hardware maintenance manual does NOT list that as a part for the T23. (the manual lists 08K6685 and 08K6764 for the 13", and 26P9566, 26P9567, 46L4843, 46L4910 and 46L4911 for the 14" screens)

it is smaller than the LCD bezel i have on my T23, it wont fit, and its even shaped slightly different.

i dont know what model this LCD bezel is for, but 04P3151 is clearly etched in the plastic.

obviously i'm going to send this guy a message, saying the LCD bezel he sent isnt the right size.

Quick google on the part number "04P3151". It's for a T20/21 and it's listed as a 14.1" screen bezel. Odd that it didn't fit properly though? When I googled the part number the Ebay auction you linked was listed..... I think the palm rest they've listed is miss identified.

Was your lid ever replaced? My first question to myself was how your bezel became cracked, was it original? I think you where sold the proper bezel since the auction stated T20-T23 14.1......don't know if the vendor is at fault by what was listed other than he listed too many models it would fit. His picture looks correct to me though by eyeball.

Check what your lid part number is if you can and google it, see what comes up. Did you buy your T23 off Ebay?

As you quoted the HMM, you should see that there are only two screen sizes for the T23 (13.3" and 14.1"). However, since the T20 and T21 share the same FRUs and the T22 and T23 share different FRUs, I can only assume that there are some physical differences between a T21 and T23 LCD bezel. I have recently sold my T21 (but have another coming to take its place), so I can't answer that question definitively. Also note that the HMM FRUs for the LCD lids indicate that they are "kits" and most likely comprise the lid AND bezel.

As far as I can tell, IBM FRU 04P3151 refers to a keyboard bezel OR an LCD bezel, depending upon which eBay seller you want to believe. Searching IBMs site for the FRU does not find any matches.

Two questions:

- What size LCD is on your system?
- How exactly is the bezel smaller and how is it shaped differently? (Okay THREE questions)

my system has a 14.1" LCD.

the one i got from eBay is a *tad* smaller. i dont know exacts. maybe a few millimeters. it looks like it is in between the 13.3" and 14.1" size.

its shaped different as in the hooks on the sides are in weird places. they dont line up with the back of the LCD bezel. in fact, some of the hooks are right where my antenna is located, so they just get in the way.

my current LCD bezel is cracked because i was probably a little too rough when pulling it off.

i've taken my T23 apart a *lot*. i've soldered the inverter board to try to fix it, and eventually replaced it. right now i have an LCD in from an A20m since the original screen has some bad pixels (right in the same area that the crack on the bezel is, in the lower right hand side).

so the crack may actually be from the original owner. when i got the T23, it was in a junk pile. the keyboard was ruined, the palm bezel was busted open, the system had no ram, no disc drive, no power cord, etc.

the T23 had been sitting for almost a year, because it wouldnt boot it (it would power on and go the pulsing fan). i eventually took the time to pull it apart and solder the broken motherboard part. now that its working, i've been buying stuff to make it prettier (new bezel, new 802.11g card).

the best upgrades i can get are also the most expensive. a 7200 rpm hard drive and 768-1gig ram.


also, the guy from eBay said for me to send it back to him. there was a 7 day return policy listed in the auction. (lucky for me)

Before you send it back, can you take pics of it?

I am not aware of any T series Thinkpads having the latches on the side...

I think that's your problem. I believe that there is a different LCD bezel for the systems that have the built-in WiFi antennas. The T2x HMM indicates a two LCD cover kits; without and with antenna.

BTW, if you find a good source of LCD bezels for systems with built-in antennas, I would like to know as I've got two systems that need them.

If I get industrious tonight, I'll take the bezels off of two T23s; one without the antennas and one with and post some pictures of the differences.

It shows all the T23 model numbers and which components are in each. There are three screen possibilities: 13.3" (rare), and two 14.1" - with and without wireless.

Sorry it took an extra day to do this but...

There are slight differences in the LCD bezel for the lids which do not have the built-in WiFi antennas and the ones that do. The bezels are NOT interchangeable.

This is exactly what one of the differences are. I don't have my digital camera (I think the wife has it) but the topmost side "hook" which the bezel uses to clip onto the lid is about 1/2 inch HIGHER (i.e., towards the top) for the non-WiFi model. The FRU on the bezel I pulled off a non-WiFi lid is 26P9381. A bezel off of a WiFi lid is FRU 27L8727. And you are correct in the size difference; the non-WiFi bezel is about 1/16" narrower, as measured from side to side. The height seems to be the same between the two bezels.

In short, you have the wrong bezel for your lid.

That is about the same information that is in the HMM. The problem with that is that both resources (web site and HMM) do not break out the LCD bezel as a part number on its own. They refer to an LCD cover kit, of which the bezel is just one piece.

Well, I can now confirm that they are actually different in size. I just got in a T23 wireless cover for my T23 (thanks schen), and it is clearly a little wider than mine, by about 1/4 inch.

so two T23 LCD bezels for the same size screen are different sizes?

i didnt get around to taking a picture of the bezel that was sent to me. i sent it right back to the guy i bought it from, and he gave me a FULL refund (including his shipping cost!).

the one i received was smaller that my current, and the hooks on the side were maybe half an inch higher at the top than what my current (cracked) bezel has.
