any difference between A31P 2653 R5U & 2653 R3U

#1 Post by rbi » Wed Jan 31, 2007 2:02 am

If the price gap is about $69? Is it normal for the two with 512MB memory in them? I got one quote for R5U for $569 factory sealed and R3U for $499 factory sealed. The other one R3U with 256MB memory can be done for $350 refurbished.

Thanks mate. So is it worthy to pay extra $69 for the bluetooth and wireless card (I have a linksys G PCMCIA one already)?

Do you ever use Bluetooth? If not, I would say just get the R3U.

You are right. I think I really haven't used Bluetooth. Now the question will be is it necessary to pay another extra $150 for a 256 memory more as I can see there is a deal for $350 with 256MB only. Thanks mate.

The difference between 512MB and 256MB is only like $20US. I think the main reason for the $149US price difference between the two R3U's is that one is brand new whereas the other is used. Do they include warranty? The factory-sealed one probably does, and warranty is typically worth around $80US a year. You need to check how much warranty these units come with, and decide whether you want warranty or not.

The $350 today was just sold out :( . The $499 comes with IBM Global Financing 90 Day Parts And Labor and both of them are all refurbished.

Thanks pianowizard. Now I was wondering if there is a machine with the same features as 2653 R5U except for the OS being Win2000 pro selling for $395. What do you think of it?

That's definitely not as good as WinXP. There are already quite a few common programs that require XP and won't run on Win2K. If I were you, I would wait a little longer for another reasonably price A31p with XP.
