z61t with 1440x900 power consumption
Hi
i am currently looking to replace my t41 with "yet" another thinkpad. I fly alot and i am looking for something that does not consume to much power. I have this question on the x60 forum but I wanted just wanted to check with you what the power consumption of your z61t is if you were to
1) turn off all the wireless devices (bluetooth, wlan)
2) disconnect all usb devices
3) turn down the brightness to as low as possible
4) clock the cpu at a low clock rate (near 1 ghz instead of the 2ghz)
i have done this homework on several machines, x60 comes to about 7w, t41 to about 9w... basically the constellation above is my setting for my plane Smile
cheers rumman

The Z series definitely can't run on battery for longer than the X60 or X60s. And like cj3209 said, it's pretty big. If you want a small widescreen laptop with long lasting battery, you need to look at other brands such as Fujitsu, Sony and HP.
Microsoft Surface 3 (Atom x7-Z8700 / 4GB / 128GB / LTE)
Dell OptiPlex 9010 SFF (Core i3-3220 / 8GB / 8TB); HP 8300 Elite minitower (Core i7-3770 / 16GB / 9.25TB)
Acer T272HUL; Crossover 404K; Dell 3008WFP, U2715H, U2711, P2416D; Monoprice 10734; QNIX QHD2410R; Seiki Pro SM40UNP

My two cents on the Z61t...it is worthy of air travel if you use the heavy duty 5200 ma battery. One of the problems with air travel is when the person in front of you pushes the seat back into your area. The normal screen size of my old T23 always would get stuck in the back of the seat...almost crushing the screen. I would let out a loud "ouch" and then ask the person in front of me to let me know when they were going to lean back.
The Z61t uses a lower - wider screen and is less prone to this problem. I used my unit on a couple recent long flights with no problem getting through an entire DVD movie and still had time to listen to some music and work on some Outlook messages.
The Z61t is a compromise in size, weight, and power. I love the X series, but it does not have a built-in DVD. I think for the $$, the Z61t offers desktop power with a small footprint. The T series uses a higher screen and you have to be careful due to the height.
Yes, the Z61t fills the table top...but is manageable and the person in front of you can lean back without smashing your screen. Without the larger battery you will find yourself wanting more power.
Other tips…turn the screen brightness to low, turn off the WIFI and BT, don’t block the fan vent on the bottom of the unit or it will overheat, ask the person in front of you to tell you when they are going to lean back.
Hope this helps.

Hi Guys,
thanks for your inputs - billp117 is right. When you fly, the most disturbing thing about the T-series is that when the person in front of you leans back, he hits the top of your display, which really irritates me. I have seen a z61t, the size is nice, not too high so idea for flying. the width is a slight problemt, but overall a wider notebook is nicer than a higher notebook when sitting 14hrs in the "coach".
Otherwise, it would be great if someone around could quote me what consumption they have been getting by turning off the bt, wireless, detach any usb devices and lower the brightness of the screen completely. The value can be found under batteries in the Lenovo Power Management Utility.
thanks a lot
cheers
