Ordered an X40....questions.

#1 Post by aamsel » Tue Sep 14, 2004 8:27 pm

Just ordered a 23826UU X40.

Questions I have:
1.) Was this a "stupid" model to get, feature for feature, dollar for dollar?
2.) Can the wireless B be upgraded later to wireless G and/or bluetooth?
3.) Fastest hard drive this size is the 4200rpm, right?
4.) I would like a very small case for this unit, but since this one has the media slice, is that a quandry? As in, do you get a case to fit the X40 with the media slice, one to fit it without the bay, or do you need two cases??

Thanks,
Andrew

1) Meh
2) Yes, your wireless nic card can be upgraded to an IBM Intel Wireless B/G or A/B/G... as for bluetooth, that's actually the modem. That of course can also be upgraded, you just need to purchase the 56k Modem/Bluetooth combo card from IBM.
3) So far =/
4) That depends one what you wanna do... if you're gonna need the media slice with you most/all the time, I'd get once case that'll fit both. Just my opinion.

I thought that the notebook had to be "bluetooth ready" with the appropriate antenna installed. Does the 23826UU have a bluetooth antenna ready to go??
Thank you,

"Meh"... I'm not too sure if it's a great deal or not... but hey, it's an IBM =D

Now, that model does NOT have the bluetooth antenna installed already. But you can purchase all the parts (Bluetooth/56k modem card, Bluetooth antenna, and cover stickers to allow the BT LED to show) from IBM and install it yourself.

Thanks, I think I will just do the simple upgrade to wireless a/b/g.
The upgrade to bluetooth looks like too much of a PITA.
