Keyboard locking up on T60

#1 Post by liliggyracin » Wed Jan 31, 2007 4:11 pm

type : 2007-57U

Problem : While using the computer the keyboard will stop typing. It has happened at all points of usage including windows login. While at Windows login I hit the caps-lock key and the message appears that says Your CapsLock key is on bla bla bla.

Tried: Uninstalling and reinstalling Keyboard Drivers, Removed Keyboard and reseated. I am at a loss. Should I try a fresh install of XP? This ones got me confused as it still sees the keyboard just wont let me type. The touchpad and everything else seems to work.

Thanks!!

Curtis

A couple of T60p I know of does this. You cannot use the keyboard or touchpad but a few keys like caps lock and Fn keys still work.

We ended up returning the T60p due to systemboard problem.

Another fix is to update the BIOS to the latest.

It happens probably 2-3 times a day. I ran the bios upgrade last night around 4:30. And it didnt lock up at all before I left. I am going to test it all day today and see if it happens again. If it goes throughout the day without doing it all is well if not I will call Lenovo for a MoBo replacement. Before I started here they had this problem and sent it in for repair. It was sent back stating that it was third party memory that caused the problem. Since then it has had nothing but the preinstalled 512 memory and it still happens. In the previous notes on this issue the tech believed it was a MoBo but he left the company before the issue was completely resolved.

I have had my hands on at least 8 T60 machines that exibit the exact same symptoms. Sometimes they will run for days without issue and then all of a sudden they are locked. Only fix I have found is to rollback the drivers for the touchpad.

You mean the Touchpad driver locks up the whole keyboard? If so, which version of the driver should I install? Thanks.

The only fix I have been able to make work is to roll the drivers back to just the Microsoft PS/2 Compatible Mouse.

Sorry guys. Was out all weekend. But as far as I know the problem hasnt been recreated os of late. But that has only been 4 days. It was an intermittent problem so I am keeping the helpdesk case open untill it hasnt happened for at least 2 weeks. I am keeping my fingers crossed but I was unable to recreate the problem like I was before.

Thanks!!
