I am having the same problem. I think it may be because I haven't disabled and re-enabled my security chip in the BIOS. (I still have my old hard drive with the XP preload and an encrypted virtual drive on it).

Have you tried this?

Disabling and enabling of TPM does not help at all.

i put in the finger print software only and tested

#7 Post by johnp126 » Thu Feb 01, 2007 6:53 pm

that works but it works oddly and differently than xp. you have to control alt delete to get the option to swipe your finger, but it does work but not as one is used to. i did not install css 8 because i tried it on my xp machine and i have a problem, i had an issue with the 7 client and then the 8 since it wants to 'upgrade' does the upgrade ok but then when you install the 8 portion it fails saying you have to run the upgrade to save your 7 data and i am stuck in a loop

Worked for me

#9 Post by ghosh9691 » Sun Feb 04, 2007 9:49 am

I have Windows Vista Ultimate on my Z61m. At first, CSS8 would steadfastedly refuse to work. Then, as part of the recent upgrade to Windows, I got BitLocker installed. I am sure this had nothing to do with it directly, but BitLocker forced me to clean up and re-initialize the TPM hardware. After that was done, CSS8 magically started working!

I am sure that this re-initializing the TPM was the trick and it should be possible to do so from the BIOS. Maybe there is an option there to clear everything from the TPM?

You guys may want to check it out...

I got the same problem and found a solution: As the security subsystem is now natively supported by Windows you have to take ownership of the chip via the builtin configuration tool before client security solution can use the chip properly. You can access the configuration tool as an administrator by typing "tpm.msc" in the search box. What worked for me was first clearing the TPM (choose don't have a password, restart and confirm bios notification) and then initializing it (another restart).
Now everything works fine, with the slight annoyance that my system needs a minute or so at the welcome screen to initialize the client security logon screen.

Good Luck!

Simon

Your Trick was great! I can use CSS 8 now but after that i think Password Manager runs badly. It cant remember my Yahoo Password (only username), not compatible with hotmail.com, etc...

so very disappoint with what i tried to get it to work :?

i tried to run "tpm.msc" but it retrives a message "compatible tpm cannot be found". It seems like Vista don't support TPM 1.1, only TPM 1.2.
But in Lenovo's site the only driver i have for my machine is the TPM 1.1 version.

My machine is T43 1872-WCL.

Even CSS 8 don't detect the TPM, and is working with Software Based Security.

I got the same problem here. My CCS 8 is now software based.

TPM 1.1 does show up in Device Manager. Bitlocker needs TPM 1.2 to work, but how come CCS doesn't work with it either? Isn't CCS designed for Lenovo's security chips? Is there some driver available to download?

I can't get TPM to work with CSS8.

I tried clearing the security chip from the bios, but each time CSS starts I get the popup "The security chip on this system is disabled"

Errr.. it isn't

I tried "tpm.msc" but get "Compatable TPM cannot be found"

In device manager I have an "Atmel TPM" with driver version 3.0.0.15

Ideas?

Hi HerrSimon,

Your solution did the trick and it was successful.
I got the same problem and found a solution: As the security subsystem is now natively supported by Windows you have to take ownership of the chip via the builtin configuration tool before client security solution can use the chip properly. You can access the configuration tool as an administrator by typing "tpm.msc" in the search box. Now everything works fine, with the slight annoyance that my system needs a minute or so at the welcome screen to initialize the client security logon screen.
Thanks,
Miri

Success on an X40 with XP Pro

#18 Post by nyc216 » Tue Apr 29, 2008 7:37 am

New to the forum. Found it while looking for TPM fix.

In short: I finally tracked down an easy and official (Lenovo/IBM) fix and it worked.**

The long story: I had the same TPM driver error. (Running X40 with Win XP Pro.) Called Lenovo/IBM tech support and had my case immediately escalated to their paid Expert Live service ($99/incident). The guy said the issue was too complex for basic support. They ask for the fee before you can speak to an Live Expert. I appealed to a manager to waive the fee since I was using TV System Update but they balked. So I called back a few hours later.

Next tech was GREAT. Gave me link below and said to to simply run the .exe to reinstall the driver. WORKED! Took all of five minutes.

Note: The .exe expands the compressed files to a directory where I found an INSTALLE.EXE (yes, with extra "E", not a SETUP.EXE file). INSTALLE.EXE ran *very* quickly and without any indication.

I was then instructed to reboot. (I secretly didn't!) Then ran CSS 8.1 and voila, loaded perfectly, sans error. Hurray for tech notes that actually work!

Hope it works for you. (And that I have obeyed all the official rules and forum etiquette.)
