SP2 Verdict on T42
SP2 Verdict on T42
I just ordered a T42 2379DXU today, and I wanted to get everyone's opinion if I should upgrade to SP2 when the machine arrives (I know that IBM has officially asked its customers to ignore SP2 due to compatibility issues).
If possible, I'd love to hear SP2 comments from users specifically concerning IBM T series Thinkpads (not desktop or home brew systems).
If I don't end up going SP2, how would I go about preventing Microsoft from forcing it on me (I read in another thread that MS will eventually "force" all XP Users to go SP2).
Thanks in advance for all of your help!

SP2 is absolutely fine. I built my thinkpad from bare frame, so it had no OS. I installed, to a fresh HDD, XP with SP2 integrated. All of the IBM utilites that I have tried have worked fine, including Access Connections (which for the most part I really really like).
Just make sure you have the latest versions of all the IBM stuff before installing SP2, and perhaps you should UNINSTALL the stuff, and re-add it after you've got SP2. *shrug*

Installed on my T42. No problems.
I was somewhat reluctant to do so since I have a lot of custom APPS on my notebook, and IF there had been a problem, I might faqve been forced to build everything from scratch.
I would definitely download it prior to setting up other apps on your T42.

Installed it on two brand new T42p Thinkpads - with absolutely no problems. Everything works just fine. As a matter of fact, one of the Thinkpads with the IBM a/b/g card that was finicky before, now works GREAT with SP2 installed.
Hope this helps.
