Advanced mini dock - non working USBs

#1 Post by Chonsk » Thu Feb 01, 2007 5:28 am

Hi all!

I've just got my hands on a replacement for my new Advanced mini dock but ran into same problems as the one before:
The USB-port just dont work and when I first plugged it in my tp wanted to add new hardware and install drivers...which it couldn't.
When looking in the unit manager I see five yellow exclamation marks; one for Bluetooth audio, one for USB device and three unknown units (my guess is the dvi and possibly the tv-out and som more).

The thing is - the powerplug works, the serial port (to my extra display) works and my LAN-connection is ok AND more importantly - this is the second mini dock I try since IBM/Lenovo just sent a replacement that has the same problem. Fast service, called yesterday afternoon and got it this morning.

My guess is that I need to solve some conflicts between ports but dont know how. Any solution around here? Someone knows?

thanks

I'm thinking its your laptop unfortunately.

Maybe check the connector on your laptop for any dust, interference or damaged pins.

Do you know of anyone else with a compatible Z60 ot T60 that could test the dock to see if it works?

Maybe take the dock and your lappy to a authorised reseller who has the same stuff on display?

Or maybe get lenovo to send out a technician.

Theres a few that my be a bit of a hassle to organise, but it will help eliminate exactly where the problem lies.

Also are you using the OEM image or did you wipe the HDD clean and do a clean install of the OS and drivers? If you did a clean install try getting System Update from Lenovo's support site and see if there are any driver updates that make sense.

Thanks for the answer MrPats.

But no, no clean install altough that approach seems getting closer and closer the more I use the thinkvantage software. It just doesn't seem to do it's stuff right.
I just did a BIOS update to 2.12 after seeing this.
That didn't do it

Dont know if I should put any more energy into this as the USBs on my laptop works fine and its more of a "I paid for it - make it work"-thing. But I can't sit all day long fiddling with my new laptop - I have to work too - believe it or not

Think I will make a call to some IBM ppl when I have the time for it.

Beeing the person I am, there were no way I could wait longer than an hour before I called an IBM service rep ;)
His solution was to blow the whole thing clean with a new recovery. That would mean starting over with all the installations, calls to MS for serialnumbers and so on...This is not something I want. It has taken me days to configure this machine to my liking and therefore I will live with this flaw unless someone comes up with some brilliant solution that would fix the problem.

Found the solution myself.
Used the R&R start disc (the first one when doing your R&R discs) when reinstalling device drivers. Also had to point drivers out in I386 and system32/drivers. A lot of steps but now at least it works :D
