T42 LCD flicker
T42 LCD flicker
T42 2373 M1U
OS: Vista Business N
Video: ATI Mobility Radeon 9600/9700 w/ 64M VRAM
I'm getting a slight flicker looks to be like a refresh rate issue on my T42. I used the Vista Business canned video driver for the ATI 9600/9700. I then updated all of the power management drivers from the Lenovo site. I then updated the ATI Catalyst drivers for the video adapter from the ATI website. The only thing I can see that may be the issue is the display is a Generic Display with the refresh rate set at 50Mhz. You can't adust the setting. Anyone else have the same issue and has found a workaround or resolution? There are no video drivers from Lenovo site as of yet. Should be an interesting couple of months.

Welcome to thinkpads.com forum.
This is a known and annoying problem, I've also installed Vista Ultimate on my T42p and the screen also flickers.
This problem also happens when using XP with Omega drivers, the screen flickers a lot.
Your only choice is to wait for Lenovo to update T4x series drivers to Vista as that driver is the only one has work for me

At this time, Lenovo has released their ATI driver package, at least for the T42 with Radeon 9600. I have been using that driver package since release without any flickering.
Why was there a need to use the Omega drivers anyway? ATI does allow download of their mobile Radeon drivers nowadays, though I don't know when that changed. I do remember needing to run the Omega drivers in the past when IBM was slow to update the drivers.
Have any of you upgraded to the Lenovo driver package to confirm that this fixes the problem?
Edit: Well I just did a quick check and it looks like Lenovo did update the vid card driver on February 2nd, but it was a 2k/XP driver? I'll have to confirm what I'm using when I get out of work in a couple hours, but I know I don't have any flickering.
