Vista Drivers (READ BEFORE INSTALL)

#1 Post by dfumento » Fri Feb 02, 2007 10:08 am

NOTE: Strongly recommend a fresh install instead of an upgrade.

Driver List for X60. This list is more up-to-date and easier to use than using the driver matrix.

Driver List for T60.

System Update and System Installer

Verizon EVDO PCMCIA Card Drivers. The driver for the built-in MC5720 chip is on the list above.

Also:
1. Be certain do remove Sonic software (e.g. DLA) before upgrading as it will not uninstall afterwards and causes driver issues when you boot.

2. If you have been using your fingerprint reader to log into Windows for months and months, you need to make sure that you remember your user account password before you upgrade. Why? Well, when Vista initially boots, it will not offer you the fingerprint reader option, and you will have to remember the actual account password. While there are work-arounds for this, too, it caused a lot of unnecessary pain.

3. Here is a list of programs claimed not to be compatible with Vista, but some of it is now compatible (e.g. Verizon Software mentioned above).
4. ITunes and Vista Special Install Instructions
5. ITunes Repair Tool for Vista 1.0. There are bugs related to Itunes and Vista. Read 3 and 4 before installing Vista.
6. IMPORTANT PerfectDisk Users During the PerfectDisk 8 Vista certification testing process, Raxco’s development team uncovered a bug within a component of Windows Vista that could potentially cause hard drive corruption. Raxco has already reported this bug to Microsoft and Microsoft is working to resolve the issue. Raxco has designed PerfectDisk 8 build 50 to specifically work around this issue. PerfectDisk 8 build 50

[itman] For those who failed to read the instructions like me and have the persistent Sonic DLA error, I have found a solution. Over on the roxio forums in this thread

http://forums.support.roxio.com/lofiver ... 16911.html

you will find a link to roxio drag to disc here

http://docs.roxio.com/patches/d2d3290.exe .

I just installed and uninstalled and no more DLA issues.

How about a list of drivers that don't work with Vista?

So far the Widcomm Bluetooth II driver (I have a Bluetooth III but the Widcomm stack is infinitely nicer than the Microsoft stack.. I really had hopes that Microsoft would have developed it a bit more in Vista) installs, sorta works, can see devices, but doesn't really let the device connect and send data (files, audio gateway, etc).

The only way I ll probably go back to Vista is the fix the WMP 11 bug, it makes no sense lol from Beta 1 I was able to use WMP with no problems.
Fix the standby and Hibernate, and no its not hardware problems!!!! I can do both things on XP Pro.
I dont think its that you need more RAM to run Vista, I think Vista is leaking memory somewhere. BUt I still miss Vista!!!

FYI, when you install Vista on a ThinkPad that has a SATA hard drive, be sure to verify the following BIOS setting is in effect:

Config > Serial ATA (SATA) > SATA Controller Mode Option > AHCI

The necessary drivers are already in Vista to support AHCI mode.

Do not download the audio driver that lenovo directs you to for vista. it is a windows 2000/xp driver that for some reason comes up in the list of drivers even when vista is selected at the os. It will make vista crash and you wont be able to open it again, i had to reinstall vista because of it.

Note for those looking to avoid a reinstall: Client Security and Rescue & Recovery must be uninstalled beforehand, cannot be uninstalled after the upgrade. According to the tech I spoke with the safe bet is to uninstall everything that is one of (Sonic, Intel, IBM, Thinkvantage) before the update.
