A31P - 2GB of RAM, But only lists 1GB

I have gone the upgrade route and have 2GB of RAM in place. But, when I right click My Computer - Properties, it only lists 1GB. Is there any program which will "test" RAM inplace? Not a techie, so make it simple. Thanks.

Memtest86 is the most trusted one, but it involves burning a CD from an ISO image. If your computer already has PC-Doctor, try that instead because it's simpler.

For windows installation begin by downloading either the Pre-Compiled Windows package to build a boot-able floppy disk or an ISO (zip version) to create a boot-able CDROM. After the file is downloaded an extract must be done to uncompress the file(s). To extract right click on the downloaded file and select the "Extract All" option. The extract option will let you choose where the files will be extracted to. To build a bootable floppy go the the folder where the files were extracted and click on the Install icon. The floppy disk will appear to be unformatted by Windows after the install is complete.

1) Make sure you have an up-to-date (or at least recent) BIOS. Original A31's and A31P's were designed to support only up to 1GB total RAM (because 512MB DIMMs were all that was available in 2002 when they were being sold). Therefore original BIOSes don't support 2GB. However, new BIOSes do recognize 2GB.

2) Make sure the RAM is mounted firmly in the slot (if it's not quite snug, it can be not recognized).
