R52 and non-IBM memory?

#1 Post by tuxers » Mon Feb 05, 2007 10:00 am

Hi,
I'm considering installing non-IBM memory on my R52.
Are there any known compatibility issues with 3rd party memory?
Lenovos spec says PC2-4200 CL4 SDRAM 200-pin non-parity SoDIMM.
I'm considering installing a Corsair Value DDR2 SO-DIMM PC4200 512MB, Unbuffered, Non-ECC, 64Megx64, CL4 chip.
1GB of total memory would be satisfactory, and Corsair Value is affordable for a student...
- But is it 100% compatible with ThinkPads?
Regards,
Harry :)

It should be compatible.
You can also check the Crucial website.
It is always best to take your computer to the store where you'll buy the memory from, and agree with the seller that in the rare case that it won't work with your PC, you will return it and get a full refund.

Good idea.
But I've already ordered 1GB Kingston ValueRAM.
$112 inclusive shipping :D

The memory slot was pretty darn tight, but as I was about to give up, the chip fell into its position. Kingston ValueRAM PC4200 CL4 seems to work fine on R52! 1,5GB memory and Linux's aggressive caching = sweeeet 8)
