I'm wondering if this is perhaps just a normal "quality" of the Flexview displays, as this is my first and I've only owned my T60p for a couple weeks....but I've noticed that when the screen is completely black-- either via the "blank" screen saver, or displaying a black screen via Dead Pixel Buddy-- there is an uneven, splotchy quality to the backlighting, ie. one corner looks dark, and there's what even resembles a sort of splotchy ring in the mid-right portion of the screen that is a bit brighter than the rest; furthermore, if I-- very gently--take each top corner of the screen and slightly push one while pulling the other, it looks like some sort of light show, with the splotches trading between relative brightness and darkness;
I've read other posts in which people describe a "shadowing" effect, but this seems different; "splotchy" is the best word I can come up with; note that this quality is really only noticeable when the screen is completely black; when all white, it looks fairly even;
I'm debating whether or not to have this looked at by Lenovo; do other people notice this quality? It really isn't so much of a practical issue because in using the machine, obviously, the screen is rarely all black; I just want to make sure my LCD isn't a dud;
ps. I did at one point use a highly diluted solution of water and isopropyl alcohol--as recommended in Lenovo's help literature--to clean the surface of the screen; I'm hoping that this couldn't have anything to do with what I'm noticing (?)
strange splotchy backlighting on T60 Flexview
No, cleaning with a diluted isopropyl acholo+water solution doesn't affect the LCD display. The uneven lighting issue in Flexvoew panels ahs been reported in the forum before and there does not seem to be any official solution with Lenovo. My 15" Flexview is kinda 'shadowy' for the first 20 minutes afterit boots before the backlight gets even and bright all over. I guess your monitor also has some related artifacts. As you said, it is not really noticeable until you look very carefully.
I don't think it is worthwhile calling and running behind Lenovo after this - the support people will jsut say they cannot replicate the issue. If you have got a grain-free flexview panel, stick to it and enjoy the brilliant display!

I think I have the same thing specially when i make a little twist from the top corners of the lid but, I don't have a grainy screen ans looks beutiful i love it! is kind normal artifact.

just as a follow up, I'd thought I'd mention that I examined my external NEC monitor (19" S-IPS TFT) that I use at work, and I noticed the exact same "cloudy" lighting effect when either turning the blank screen saver on, or viewing a fully black screen; in fact, we have two of these monitors, and this effect was present on both;
I'm thinking that this must be something unique to IPS screens (again, practically speaking, it's by no means a serious issue); perhaps this effect is what people refer to as "ghosting"?
