There is no PN for that part.
The cage only available with HDD.

I had to remove from the factory hdd to install the new 7k100 drive.

Actually, I believe the cage/caddy is 41W2142, but in the bizarro world of IBM/Lenovo nomenclature, they call it "HD Bracket Screw Kit", making you think it's just screws.

Weird timing, though. I just got an X60s and came here looking for info about the caddy. I thought I had figured it out and was about to order the two part numbers (the rubber rails are separate) and then come here to post the info.

However, when I got here I happened to look up at the ad banner. It looks like a better alternative is to buy it from a Thinkpads.com forum advertiser, newmode.us. They're a bunch cheaper than getting it directly from Lenovo. I just placed an order so we'll see how well they do!

One of my labs buys from newmode.us, and they are excellent.
Now: T60 2613-EKU | T23 2647-9NU | 600X 2645-9FU | HP 100LX
Past: X31 2673-Y13 | T41 2374-3HU | T22 2647-AEU

This must be a very new development, because I asked around here a couple of weeks ago regarding the same topic and I got
(1) crickets or
(2) can't get the cage separate from the drives

I'm pretty excited about this. Let us know how it goes.

Yeah, I noticed the lack of info when I got here the other day and I was sure there had to be an answer. I think there's even a second thread about the caddy with equally inaccurate info but I haven't taken the time to go find it again and update it yet.

Anyway, FedEx just showed up a little bit ago with the package from newmode! So ordered on Weds, shipped out the same day, delivered on Friday. Gotta love that service, eh! Their "TP60" package contains the caddy itself, four screws for the HD and the two rubber strips to hold it in place.

They're not the exact same components as what's in my X60s, though, there are some differences. For instance, the OEM caddy has black plastic for the pull tab and covering the inside of the caddy. The TP60 version has clear plastic. The OEM caddy has five rows of big holes and four rows of smaller holes in-between, whereas the TP 60 has eight rows of big holes.

But, unfortunately, there's no happy ending for the time being. The two rubber strips in the TP60 kit don't match each other. One looks like the OEM strip, but the other is enough different, about .015" thicker, that it makes it nearly impossible to slide the assembly into the notebook. :(

So let's see how good the newmode customer service dept really is when things don't go according to plan.

Stay tuned!

Thanks for the info. Did you happen to try using the new drive cage with the original rubber bumpers (assuming you still had them)? In essence, I guess I'm asking if the drive cage itself has the same dimensions as the original.

I was figuring that the black rubber pieces come off of the original drive so readily, that I could just swap them out every time I swap out the drive.

Yes, sorry, I should have mentioned that. I did use the OEM strips and everything fit perfectly with the TP60's caddy. Your thought about swapping the strips when you swap the drive is exactly what I'm going to do while I wait for newmode to remedy the situation.

Just to follow up on the problem with the TP60 from newmode.us....

When I discovered the problem late on Friday, I emailed Newmode and asked how to proceed. It was after business hours so I knew I wouldn't hear back from them until Monday at the earliest.

I'm pleased to report that Hanh at Newmode emailed back on Monday morning, apologizing for the problem and saying that they were shipping a whole new TP60 package out immediately! They emailed the FedEx tracker # Monday afternoon and the package arrived today.

Thankfully, both rubber strips matched and now the reduced overall width of the caddy/strip assembly allowed it to slide into the X60s just like the OEM parts.

There are a lot of vendors online that can get an order right and ship it on time, but in my mind the thing that differentiates the good vendors from the bad is how they fix problems. I had never heard of Newmode before last week but I'm very pleased with the way the original order was processed and even more so with how they handled the problem. They get a big thumbs up from me!

I placed my order with newmode as described above. In the comments section of the order, I explained what happened to another forum member with the rails being too big. I quoted text from this thread, and I even provided a link to the thread so they could check for themselves.

I was pretty excited when the package arrived, having dodged the bullet that tonydi did. I opened the package, dropped my drive in the cage, put on the rails, and guess what. It wouldn't fit. It was exactly the same problem tonydi had.

I couldn't believe it. After I had specifically told them to make sure to include the proper fitting rails, they send me the wrong ones.

I emailed customer service and expressed my dismay, and they were very accomodating (thumbs up for newmode cs) and said they were working with their production department to make sure it didn't happen again, but I couldn't fathom how their fulfillment department didn't make sure they were sending the right thing.

If you have to delay my order a day or two to make sure everything is in order, I don't mind, but don't send the wrong thing.

Still, if they get me the right rails, I'll still be happy in the end. It takes roughly 1 minute to unscrew the drive cover, slide out the old drive, slide in the new drive, and replace the cover. Instant change to another OS (actually 2 other OS': osx86 and ununtu on the second drive).

Yeah, that's not cool, no reason for them not to check this out more thoroughly. I can appreciate the fact that it's probably difficult for them to tell which strips are ok and which aren't unless they have a notebook to test with. I took great pains to measure everything with digital calipers so I could find the .015" difference in total assembled width, something the avg order processing clerk would not have access to. But still.....

Now I hope your second shipment works out! Your experience so far makes me wonder if they just got lucky when sending my second kit!
