Risks of updating the bios?

#1 Post by goka » Thu Sep 16, 2004 3:15 am

When poking around in my 600e (366Mhz) I saw that I didn't have the lates BIOS installed. I've got INET35WW, but the latest is INET36WW (although with the same release date as INET35WW?!). the only changes is obviously that the later has Win XP support. Well...I've got WinXP and it works. The only thing that doesn't is putting the TP to sleep - it always reboots when I do that. Maybe I should try to update to see if that makes the trick.

Could there be any problems? Of course, you should always be backed up, but do I risk being without my TP for awhile? could things go wrong? I disabled my faulty trackpoint by changing the cmos. Could that be a problem when I update?

I haven't run Windows XP on a 600E, but I updated the bios on my 600E running Windows 2000 with no problems.

Naturally, YMMV.

I updated the BIOS on my former 600E to '36 and installed XP pro and it worked fine. Didn't try hibernation/sleep mode, though. I believe this was a problem on the 600E with more than just XP because it bridged the two notebook power management standards (ACPI and APM).
