Using FN+F5 (WiFi/BT) without AC

#1 Post by budspencer » Wed Feb 07, 2007 6:27 am

Hello,

I want to use the shortcut FN+F5 for (de)activate my WiFi/BT Connections without using AC - is this possible?

Due to some problems with the AC, and in my opinion the good work, which MS did with it's integrated Vista-Networking-SW, I want to use the Vista-Network-Profiles.

With AC I can't control, the Network and shared folders like I can do it with Vista itself. That's a big disadvantage.

Install the hot key driver software for Vista and you should be good to go :-)

Yep - I do not have AC installed (don't like it) and have only installed the HotKey driver (and System Interface Driver).

You then get full Fn-F5 functionality.

Are You Sure

Does everyone concur about the installation of these two drivers enabling the FN+F5 functionality?

I don't have the T42 here in the office today, but certainly believe I installed all drivers upon migrating from XP to V-Ultimate, and this sequence fails to function. I too don't want to deal with Access Connections.

I believe the following set of drivers should do the job:

Power Manager Driver
Lenovo Interface Driver
HotKey Features
Wireless Drivers

If your T42 has an older Atheros-Card(Thinkpad a/b/g), then Lenovo has not provided a driver which supports fn+f5.

I'm not even using a Lenovo driver and it's supported. On my z60m it's BIOS / system interface controlled.

Continuing

I'm not trying to usurp Warder's topic; perhaps we have the same issues.

My T42 has the Intel wireless. I discovered that the Hotkey drivers somehow had gotten uninstalled. Reinstallation caused the on-screen display for various already-working keys, such as the Thinkpad light. But the wireless on/off continues to be unfunctional.

As some folks clearly have this working, and judging from this forum quite a few don't, this is getting curious.

Perhaps the Intel wireless works differently Art. Sorry for the confusion.

In my case it works with the Atheros-Card installed. AC deinstalled and Fn+F5 is working with WiFi on/off - great :!:
