Damaged AC Power JACK

#1 Post by mj sperber » Wed Feb 07, 2007 10:45 am

Long story short, last weekend while using my T60 on the couch I felt the ac power input jack break away. It has been working fine since but has obviously loose & broken inside. Does anyone know if this is something I can fix myself and do you think it’s Ok to keep using it the way it is? Thanks in advanced for any thoughts.

If it were mine, I would have IBM (Lenovo) repair it. A T60 is a new machine, so living with that kind of a problem is probably not a good idea. ... JD Hurst

Wow..You must have given it quite a tug as the t60 ac power jack looks to be the strongest in IBM/Lenovo Thinkpad history.

Definitely get Lenovo to fix it asap.

Thanks for your input guys. I guess I'll be calling the repair depot as soon as I get a chance.

For the record I was inadvertently bearing the weight of the T60 on the power jack and felt it give way and push in a bit. After looking up the part it looks like it is a sub assembly of the cooling fan.

Every now and then Apple comes up with a brilliant idea. Their magnetic power plug is one of them. Wish every laptop had one.

I am not Apple fan but the first time I saw thier magnetic power plug, I thought this should be the standard for all laptops and many other devices!
