T42 replacement system board

Lenovo offers to replace my system board or to send me a board to replace myself. I save about 7 days, but the warranty's off if I do it myself. How hard is it to do oneself, and how easy to screw it up?

If it has a warranty on it, I would send it away so that I could hold THEM accountable should anything fail.
