Lenovo Windows Vista Ultimate 64bit Recovery DVD

#1 Post by arthurcorell » Thu Feb 08, 2007 12:45 pm

I'm a MSDN subscriber. I already load windows vista 32 bits and 64 bits on my 2623-D7U.

I called lenovo and try to get 64 Bit Ultimate Recovery DVD. But they only want to sell me the XP recovery disc which I already have.

Is there any body who can send me the copy of the Lenovo Vista 64bit Ultimate Recover disc. Just the disc, I don't need the key and I will pay the shipping.

If you need the original OS disc (any without key), just let me know, I will send to you too.

Thanks

I don't think Lenovo would offer firstly Recovery DVD with Vista 64 and in second place Lenovo don't ship Thinkpads with Vista Ultimate, just with Vista Home Premium or Vista Business.

Ditto..

There is no Vista or XP 64 bit recovery cd's.

The MTM of you machine denotes what recovery CD set it's legit for... in other words, XP pro 32 bit.

Lenovo will only officially support (phone) the OS that shipped on the unit. Typical with any vendor.

if your machine is preload XP, I dont think you can use VISTA R&R disc coz its license is encrypted on BIOS.
correct me if I am wrong.

Microsoft allows large hardware manufacturers (e.g. Lenovo, ASUS, HP, Dell) to ship their products containing a Windows Vista installation that does NOT require any kind of product activation as this might be considered an unnecessary inconvenience for the end-user.

Instead these so-called 'Royalty OEMs' are granted the right to embed certain license information into their hardware products, which can be validated by Windows Vista to make obtaining further activation information (online or by phone) obsolete.

This mechanism is commonly referred to as 'SLP 2.0' ('system-locked pre-installation 2.0') and consists of the following three key elements:

1. The OEM's hardware-embedded BIOS ACPI_SLIC information signed by Microsoft.

2. A certificate issued by Microsoft that corresponds to the specific ACPI_SLIC information.

3. A special type of product key that corresponds to the installed edition of Windows Vista.

If all three elements match Windows Vista's licensing mechansim considers the given installation a valid system-locked pre-activated copy (that does not require any additional product activation procedures).

Cheers,

Bill

If you are talking about the brute force key hack, that has been proven by Microsoft to be a hoax. I read it on a MSDN blog this week.
