Am I eligible for Vista? (link posted)

#1 Post by swarne » Thu Feb 08, 2007 1:46 pm

I recently bought a T60 on Jan 27 which got delivered to me on Feb 7th.

It came with Win XP pro my question is: am I eligible for Vista, because according to this only users with XP home are.

For XP Pro users, there is no rebate. The upgrade is already free from ModusLink, you just need to fill out their online form. You will still have to pay for shipping ($10 for me), but that's it.

There seems to be a great deal of uncertainty about the requirements for getting a Vista upgrade. I just put in an upgrade order to see what will happen. Things may be different in Canada as compared to upgrading in the US but take a look at this site: upgrade
X220(Win8.1pro)~T60p~X100e(Win8pro)~S10~X31~X40~T42~T43~560X~600X

Have you actually received your upgrade or checked your order status. I'm asking because I just filled out the online form and fax'd my proof of purchase. At this point I have no idea what to expect next. My order status at this point is that the COA has been verified.

After your advice I am filling the rebate form but not sure what's meant by pc model? is it the Type of Lenovo or the name of the notebook like T60?

Thanks

The ModusLink people seem to be a joke really. My status has bounced around a few times. At first it went right to "Order Confirmed" which is supposed to be the last step before shipment and stayed that way for a long time. Then, a few weeks later, the status changed to COA validated even though I sent in my POP and got a confirmation back that they were verifying it. It has been this way for a few weeks already.

With another computer I have, a HP dv2000t, the Status went to COA validated almost immediately and after the POP was submitted it went to COA/POP validated and that's where it has been for the past few weeks.

Basically, the site really sucks and hopefully I get my software in a timely fashion.

You are filling out the rebate or the online order form? If it's the form online, I used my full model number for that: 2613-HKU. I would recommend you do something similar, but I'm not sure it matters that much...

Yes I was filling the online order form.

After ordering just got an email from moduslink saying:

"For your order to be fulfilled, you must submit (by mail, facsimile or scan) your receipt for a qualifying PC, together with the online confirmation number listed on this page, to the following address or facsimile number"

Where do I get a receipt for a qualifying pc? I ordered my notebook online directly from Lenovo, all they sent me is plain receipts and they do not show anything related to Vista qualifying pc.

Can anyone please explain me which receipt is being referred to in the following sentence:

Thank you.

I just went online and found my invoice there. I then printed the invoice to PDF using a PDF printer driver. I e-mailed that to them and hopefully that is what they wanted. Their management is so terrible, it's not even funny. Alternatively you could probably scan a hard copy receipt as well. I don't think it needs to mention anything about a free upgrade, I think it's supposed to prove that you bought the computer between October and March...

Thank you for your reply.

I received two identical invoices from Lenovo, so I faxed both of them with the confirmation email to moduslink. Honestly, I have never come across such a worst method of getting an upgrade from any company. Not to mention the abysmal management. I would be even surprised if they send me the upgrade DVD.

I'd have to agree, I'm wondering if the upgrade will ever come. When I called a few times before the Vista release, it was easy to get someone and they were generally very nice. Since then they have rearranged the menu system and made it much harder to talk to a real person. I may still try and call them again next week and just get someone on the phone (regardless of what button pushes it takes), but for now I sent them an e-mail that will most likely go unanswered for a week or more.

The sad thing is that I already have access to Vista through my school, but it's the principle of using the Vista license that I essentially bought with the computer. I feel that if I bothered to buy XP Pro and get the upgrade, why should I waste another license on this computer?
