On many laptops today there is a button to activate/deactivate the wireless card.

if you have the drivers correctly installed and Access Connections andf the hotkey driver are also in place, then you can enable/disable it via "FN+F5"

well, yes and?koden wrote:Arrrhhh.. there is an icon on F5.
have'nt seen it
Sorry
but it tells me taht I have no lenovo adapters WAN or Bluetooth on this system???
can you enable/disable WLAN or not? WAN is for the verizon WWAN I think, and only some models of newer thinkpad series (like some T60, X60 etc.) have that, and bluetooth obviously only works if your notebook supports bluetooth

do you have original IBM WLAN drivers installed for your card? and newest version of access connections?koden wrote:Hmm..?? I'm not sure what you mean.
I get that error when i use Fn+F5
So i can't enable/disable the wireless card.
When I click ok i get an boks where I have to make a profile.
Maybe thats why it does not work?
you should normally be able to enable/disable the card even without any existing profiles in place.

ah well if your WLAN card is no original IBM card, then the way I described does not work.
you would need an original IBM Card with an IBM FRU. Those are available on ebay aswell, btw.
bad luck for you then, there is no way to easily disable wlan for you, except for disabling the device alltogether via device manager

koden;
It is a little unclear if you want to know what the FRU is for the (apparently non-IBM!) wireless card, that you've already got, or if you want to know what original IBM wireless cards that are usable for your T40.
Just to make sure we understand each other: FRU is an abbreviation of: "Field Replaceable Unit", which stands for an original part that you (or an IBM service center) can replace in the field; i.e. this does not need to take place in an equipped laboratory.
In the case you are interested in knowing what original-IBM wireless cards that are usable for your T40, go to http://shop.lenovo.com/us/accessories?us&cc=us and enter your ThinkPad's model number in the "Find accessories for your computer" box (= 2373xxx - locate the "xxx" on the bottom of your ThinkPad; e.g. 237342G), use Search --> Wireless & networking
(or, in Danish: http://www.pc.ibm.com/dk/accessories/?dk&cc=dk and use "Find tilbehoer til en pc/et system")
... and you'll find these three FRU's: 41N2991, 73P4301 and 73P4302. Find the cheapest place to shop (in Denmark) via http://www.edbpriser.dk/
If you open the "ThinkPad Computer Hardware Maintenance Manual" (of February 2006) - at ftp://ftp.software.ibm.com/pc/pccbbs/mo ... 192_01.pdf you'll find instructions about how to replace an internal FRU (i.e. if you don't use a PCMCIA device).
By the way, also check http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?t=37372
