that DARN hidden partition

#1 Post by T41mbi » Thu Sep 16, 2004 10:27 pm

I have got two 60GB 7200rpm Hitachi HDD's. I am trying to totally wipe my secondary hard drive and am having trouble finding/deleting the hidden partition. Firstly, Partition Magic 8 shows disc 2 as "Unallocated - 54, 264MB" - I have run this problem through the forums search function and have read that you must enable the hidden partition for view in the setup bios utility though I can't see any such option, I called IBM tech support and they said their is no such feature (BTW, I have a T41).

Although I can access the Setup BIOS Utility, though I can not access the screen where it says "Restore to factory contents" - I dont know why?

But anyway I am not very knowledgeable with FDISK and would appreciate some dummie advice on how I can totally wipe this drive. I am running the HDD in the Ultrabay slim drive, thus I can still perform normal functions in windows while viewing the secondary drive.

It's been awhile but I believe I just booted to DOS and FDISK and then just deleted the whole partition.

If you swap the hard drives and start the recovery CD I think it has an option NOT TO CREATE the recovery partition.

OK I fixed it...

Ill post how I did it for people in the future that wan't to know and try to use the search function

Press F1 at startup, go into security, IBM Predesktop AREA and press enter, select disable.

Then run FDISK (if you have a Windows XP CD boot from that) and bingo you will see the two partitions. Delete them and recreate!

Bingo! :-)
