USB Ports blown out?

#1 Post by bfgun » Fri Feb 09, 2007 3:47 pm

I have a nice T42p thinkpad with the ATI fire GL T2 video chipset.

When I plugged in several differnt USB devices, nothing happens. Doesnt load the drivers, the devices themselves don't light up. The only exception is an external USB HD lights up, but that's about it.

Did something happen to the USB ports i'm not aware of? I've already deinstalled the USB drives and updated the chipset.

Thanks, and let me know if anyone else has had this fixed under warranty.

it seems that t42p's usb port is as fragile as t40's.

my ancient t40-7cu got that problem 1 yr ago. although it can recognize usb device, it runs on usb 1.1 rather than 2.0.

it never hurts me if i just used that port to plug a mouse, but, if i wanna back up my data with a external drive, the speed is... you know...

eh, this doesnt reconize anything at all. plug it in, and nothing happens. plug in a usb hard drive, can see it powering up (led lights) but nothing is installed or reconized. i'd be happy even it it showed usb 1.1 but it's not even doing that. waiting for IBM to contact me for an appointment with on site service. :)
