wireless connection, software installer problem?

#1 Post by zaku » Fri Feb 09, 2007 9:50 pm

ok i have this annoying problem on my T42 that it always takes 15-20min to get wireless connection and also some programs to load up.

my situation as follows:

when i did a fresh install of win xp pro, i installed only all the wireless drivers for it to get the wireless internet connection first.

everything works fine, the wireless connection icon appears right away after the window loads up and i can access all the functions.

then i used the lenovo software installer and installed all the rest of the thinkpad softwares, drivers, etc...

now everytime when windows loads up, the wireless connection icon is not there, can't access when i click on network connections, some programs doesn't show up for example the thinkpad message center, and so on. and all this takes about 15-20 minutes for that wireless icon, programs to become visible and accessible.

so i think there must have something to do with one of the softwares or drivers that was installed from the software installer cuz it did that after the install...

anyone has this problem? or know how to solve it??

Could you give us some specifics?

Any modifications to the hardware or software?

What are you using for wireless (PCMCIA/miniPCI, etc.)?

well, the thinkpad is purely stock. nothing modified on the hardware or software.

like i said, i was making sure it wasn't any third party softwares affecting that problem so i started with a fresh install of windows and then after having installed all the thinvantage softwares, drivers, this problem showed up.

for the wireless, i suppose is mini-pci?? i dunno what's the wireless card build in the T42

I think I've got the same problem as you, I'm new to wireless and have been trying to set up my wireless for a few days now with no luck.

I have a T40 and have recently updated all relevant drivers, firmware, utility programs required for my Cisco wireless adapter from Cisco and Lenivo.

After changing every conceivable option I rang up my broadband suport and he said I should have a wireless icon in my netork connections. After telling him that it wasn't there, he said it should be and he didn't now what to suggest.

I know this isn't any help to you but if you find the cause, can you please reply with the fix.

Good luck
