HPA partition deleted ? (N100 0768)

#1 Post by oneill333 » Sat Feb 10, 2007 6:57 am

Hi, Im a newbie with laptops. I tried to install Solaris last days and I think deleted my HPA partition.

I have to mention that:

- I have installed Partition Magic before and made more partition than install Linux with no problems, and then tried Solaris
- I could see in PM the HPA partition
- now I can not see in PM the HPA partition even if the capacity of my hard drive shows to be 76GB (was meant to be less than 80BG but Im not sure 76)

-Why my BIOS (61ET20WW v1.02) shows only menu Main, Advanced, Security, Boot, Exit ? there is no Boot from HPA partition even I didnt touch BIOS before.

But at the beggining I made IBM Service partition visible through Partition Magic and copy and paste it into a DVD. Maybe was wrong way to do it but want to know if its possible to make that partition bootable in BIOS again or get the same BIOS ? I tried to make the same partition but it does not boot Lenovo Care.

I mention that when I start my Lenovo there is still start screen: "If you want to intrerupt normal start up, press Lenovo Care button" and if I press that button it shows options Esc/F1/F12/F11

I will give you much info if you need and what would it be better solution to recover anything ?

Thanx
Nick

The normal capacity, reported by either an Operating System or a drive management utility, for an "80Gb" hard drive is around 76Gb, so if you are seeing that capacity reported, then there is no HPA present.

Yes! See the Lenovo Support web site page for your ThinkPad model for information on how to purchase the appropriate recovery disk set.

Also please fix your location entry in your ThinkPads.com profile!

Cheers,

Bill
