My license for preloaded symantec client antivirus has expired. I did not like it too much anyways. I am now split between BitDefender and kaspersky. both are ranked very high according to software reviews... I know that they're probably both good at virus finding/prevention, but what I want is something that is fast on computer boot. Removing symantec shaved almost 20 sec off when computer started and i don't want that 20 sec. lag back again.
Any suggestion and/or your experience with Kaspersky or Bit?
Thanks for helping!

i'm using bit since v.6, i had norton, till a friend of mine who was a bit fan proposed to scan my laptop, claimed virus free by norton...
it was almost 4 years ago, and since then i've always upgraded to the newest bitdefender version.
i;m very happy with it, and ain't that resource hungry like norton. kaspersky...never used it, so i dont know!

Same here. BitDefender9 did a good job for me. Now I use NOD32, because it has a slightly smaller footprint than BitDefender but takes a little more effort to configure and is a little more expensive.
I have not used Kaspersky(yet), but if you are going to pay for an antivirus program, I would say the top three would be NOD32, Kaspersky and BitDefender, any one of these three would be a good call, all top shelf software.

I have been using Kaspersky for the last 8 or 9 months and I am pretty happy with it. Based on the comparisons that I saw on http://www.av-comparatives.org/ I decided to try AntiVir Personal Edition Premium 7.01 by AVIRA on the family desktop PC a couple of weeks ago. FTR, I do like the interface of Kaspersky better than AntiVir. I have GriSoft AVG on my two daughters laptops and on my Vista RC1 install. AVG seems OK, but the security features of Vista doesn't allow automatic updating without my clicking on permit each time. Perhaps this has been fixed in Vista RTM, or in a later release of AVG. I haven't tried NOD32, but it seems to be well-rated.
