Standby doesn't work...

#1 Post by papillon » Fri Sep 17, 2004 1:15 am

I can't seem to get Standby to kick in when I shut the lid of my R40, I have checked the Power System Properties window and Standby is selected when shutting the lid. When I close the lid and then re-open it, I get the message 'Windows is preparing to Standby' and nothing happens. I have to shut it down with the power button. What am I missing please?
Thanks,
papillon

Standby

I am surprised you have not receive a reply yet. This problem most probably is due to a software conflict. I suggest you use msconfig or a similar utility to disable one by one the software that load at startup. It will be a slow process but if you proceed with method (which involves rebooting at each try...), you should finally identify the software that causes this problem. That will be a first step. Then, you will have to decide what to do. May be not load systematically the offending software, just when you need it. But first, identify the culprit.

Best regards

Hi John,
Many thanks for the reply. Please accept my apologies for the delay in replying. After emailing IBM with the problem and trying their suggestions, which didn't work, they thought it might be a problem with the mother board and told me to send it back. They checked it out and said it was, as you suggested, a software conflict. Fortunately, the first program I checked out was the culprit. I knew the version of my Kerio firewall was old and when I installed the latest version, bingo!
Thanks again,
papillon

I'm going to try the program thing but it'll be tedious...
